KIEV, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Russia carried out a large-scale overnight attack against Ukraine on Saturday, killing at least seven people and injuring more than 50 others, Ukrainian authorities said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strike involved drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, with casualties reported in four regions.

The city of Dnipro was the main target. Five people were killed and 46 others injured in the attack that lasted for more than 10 hours, according to Dnipropetrovsk Governor Oleksandr Ganzha.

Emergency crews were continuing rescue operations in Dnipro as of Saturday morning.

In the northern city of Nizhyn, two men were killed in the strikes involving drones and a ballistic missile, said the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration.

The Ukrainian Air Force said air defenses intercepted the majority of Russian weapons. However, 13 missiles and 36 drones hit 23 locations, according to preliminary data.

On the same day, Russia's defense ministry said its forces hit military-industrial and energy targets in Ukraine overnight.
