ANKARA, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said here on Monday that international passage through the Strait of Hormuz should not be obstructed.

"(Regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz) What the whole world wants is for international passage to be free and unimpeded," he said in an interview with the semi-official Anadolu Agency.

On the just-ended Islamabad talks between Iran and the United States, Fidan said Türkiye is in contact with both the United States and Iran to overcome obstacles to the talks.

"As of yesterday, the parties had shared the progress they had made with the public, and that, as before, they were in contact with the parties involved in the negotiations throughout the day yesterday to assess what Türkiye could do and what its contribution could be, and to see where the negotiations were stalled," Fidan said.

On the duration of the ceasefire, Fidan said, "It might not be technically possible to finalize them in a document to be signed within 15 days," adding that if things go well, an additional ceasefire of 45 or 60 days could be considered to allow negotiations to continue.
