MOSCOW, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Researchers at the Novosibirsk State Technical University have developed an environmentally friendly gel treatment designed to enhance seed viability, germination energy and field emergence.

According to a statement posted on its website on Monday, the university said that the innovative product, called "Protect," employs a dual-component system that is superior to conventional treatments.

Unlike conventional liquid fertilizers or treatments, this gel ensures the sprout receives continuous nourishment even after the seed's internal resources are depleted, while allowing treated seeds to be stored without losing quality for up to three months under optimal temperature and humidity conditions, said the statement.

Laboratory trials demonstrated the gel's profound positive impact across various crops, leading to faster sprouting times and more robust root system development. Beyond nutrition, the coating actively shields young seedlings from infectious diseases.
