TEHRAN, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his German counterpart Johann Wadephul have exchanged views on the recent conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, and the ceasefire between the parties.
In a phone call on Friday, Araghchi briefed Wadephul on the latest developments, underlining the importance of the adoption of responsible approaches by all countries in line with protecting international law and the principles of the UN Charter, read a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
Araghchi described Iran's decision to accept the ceasefire as a basis for ending the war completely as a "very responsible move that should be appreciated by all parties," reiterating conditions including receiving compensation for the damages inflicted on the country, and holding the "aggressors" to account.
Wadephul voiced Germany's support for the ceasefire, highlighting the necessity to stop Israeli attacks against Lebanon and expressing hope that the negotiations between Iran and the United States would lead to the restoration of peace and stability to the West Asia region.
A two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran took effect on Wednesday. Yet Israel has said the ceasefire does not cover the conflict in Lebanon.
Delegations from Iran and the United States have arrived in Pakistan's capital Islamabad for talks on easing tensions in the Middle East. ■
