LJUBLJANA, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob on Thursday strongly condemned the continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon, saying that Lebanon cannot become the "new Gaza."
"Israel, despite the ceasefire agreement, is attacking Lebanon in the worst possible way. We are witnessing indiscriminate attacks on densely-populated areas with a very high number of civilian casualties, including children," Golob said on the government's X account.
"Israel is ruthlessly violating international law, obstructing peace efforts, and further increasing the suffering of the Lebanese population," he added.
Golob also expressed support for Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's call to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar also said that threats involving phrases such as "the end of civilization" must be taken seriously.
"Words matter, and a threat to use force is not in line with international law," she said.
She added that such threats pose a threat to international peace and security, calling for resolute and unified resistance from countries around the world that are committed to peace, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran was announced early on Wednesday. Israel said it would comply with the truce, but would continue military operations in Lebanon. ■
