LONDON, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Israel's continued attacks on Lebanon are "wrong" and "should stop," British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Thursday in an interview with ITV.
"That shouldn't be happening. That should stop. That's my strong view," Starmer said when asked whether Israel's attacks constitute a breach of the understanding between the United States and Iran.
"The question isn't a technical one of whether it's a breach of the agreement or not. It is actually a matter of principle as far as I'm concerned," he added.
Commenting on remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this week threatening to annihilate "a whole civilization" in Iran, Starmer said it was "not words I would use or would ever use."
Earlier on Thursday, British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said she is "deeply troubled" by Israel's escalating attacks on Lebanon, expressing hope that Lebanon would be included in the current ceasefire.
Cooper said threats to annihilate "a whole civilization" are "completely wrong," adding that "this sort of escalatory rhetoric can have escalatory consequences." ■
