SOFIA, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Joint teams of Bulgarian and Romanian border police have detained a total of 42 illegal migrants in two cases in the area of the Danube Bridge between Vidin and Calafat, Bulgaria's Interior Ministry said in a press release.

In the first case on Monday, a joint team inspected a truck with Georgian registration, driven by two Turkish citizens, and found a total of 21 illegal migrants, the press release said.

In the second case, a joint team of Bulgarian and Romanian border police stopped a minibus with a Romanian driver at the border crossing on Tuesday, and found 21 foreign nationals inside.

Investigations of the two cases are underway.

After Bulgaria and Romania fully joined the Schengen area on Jan. 1, 2025, internal land border controls between the two neighboring countries were lifted. Nonetheless, authorities have continued to carry out checks in the border area to combat illegal immigration.
