LISBON, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Portugal launched six satellites into orbit on Monday as part of its New Space Portugal Agenda, marking a significant step forward in the country's ambition to become a key player in the European space ecosystem.

Two of the satellites will reinforce the Constelacao do Atlantico, Portugal's Earth observation constellation, while the remaining four will join the newly established Constelacao Lusiada, designed to strengthen maritime navigation communications.

Monday also saw the formalization of a cooperation agreement between satellite company Satellogic, N3O, and Geosat, establishing a framework for collaboration in new satellite technologies and downstream services, including within the Atlantic Data Hub platform.

Two additional very high-resolution optical satellites are currently under development through a partnership between CEiiA, N3O, and German aerospace company OHB.

Beyond satellite capabilities, Portugal's New Space Agenda also includes a strategic space access component coordinated by the Portuguese Air Force, which foresees the development of a space base in the Azores archipelago.

The facility is intended to support European launch and recovery operations, positioning Portugal as an Atlantic hub within the broader European space ecosystem.
