COPENHAGEN, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Denmark's left-leaning parties appeared to lead Tuesday's parliamentary election but fell short of an outright majority, according to an exit poll released by broadcaster TV 2.
The exit poll, conducted by research institute Megafon for TV 2, projected that a "red bloc" of left-leaning parties would secure 86 seats in the 179-seat Folketing, Denmark's parliament, while the right-leaning "blue bloc" would win 75 seats. Neither side could reach the 90 seats needed for a majority.
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen's Social Democratic Party was projected to remain the largest single party with 21 percent of the vote, but well below their 2022 result of 27.5 percent, the exit poll showed.
The election will determine the composition of all 179 seats in the Folketing, including 175 from metropolitan Denmark and two each from Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
More than 4.3 million people were eligible to vote. Final seat allocations may still change as the official vote count continues. ■
