WARSAW, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Two young children died Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in a multi-family residential building in Wysoka, northwestern Poland, local authorities said.
The fire was reported shortly after 8:00 a.m. local time (0700 GMT), according to the Greater Poland branch of the State Fire Service. Nine residents managed to evacuate the building before emergency crews arrived.
Firefighters rescued three additional people, including two children and an elderly woman. The children were found without signs of life, and resuscitation efforts were immediately initiated.
Despite attempts lasting about an hour, the victims, a 1.5-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, could not be revived. The fire was later brought under control. Its cause remains under investigation. ■
