BUCHAREST, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Moldova's power grid was affected overnight due to a suspected drone strike near key energy infrastructure in Ukraine, Moldelectrica, the country's power transmission system operator, said Tuesday.
In a news release, the operator said that early assessments have identified faults on the line requiring specialized repair work and coordination among regional transmission system operators.
Moldelectrica said it is coordinating with its counterparts in Ukraine and Romania to safeguard electricity supplies and limit any impact on consumers.
The Moldovan Ministry of Energy said late on Monday that technical teams from three transmission operators are jointly conducting operational checks.
It added that further updates would be issued once inspections are completed, a process that could take several hours.
"Overnight strikes disconnected Moldova's key power link with Europe. Alternative routes are in place, but the situation remains fragile. Russia alone bears responsibility," Moldovan President Maia Sandu wrote on X.
The Russian side has yet to respond to the statement. ■
