WARSAW, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Poland will invest 1 trillion Polish zlotys (270 billion U.S. dollars) in its energy sector over the next decade, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday.

More than 220 billion zlotys (59 billion dollars) will go to renewable energy and energy storage, 234 billion zlotys (63 billion dollars) to power distribution, and 160 billion zlotys (43 billion dollars) to nuclear energy, Tusk said at the opening of the PowerConnect energy fair and conference.

"The wars in Ukraine and in the Middle East, more than ever before and more than other armed conflicts, demonstrate how crucial energy, secure supplies and reasonable prices are to the security of nations and states," he said.

He added that Poland, together with several European countries including Belgium, Bulgaria and Italy, had sent a letter to the European Commission calling for the continuation of free carbon emission allowances for industry.
