BRUSSELS, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission on Friday confirmed that social media platform X has submitted remedies related to its blue checkmark, according to a commission spokesperson.
The bloc's tech spokesperson, Thomas Regnier, told reporters that Elon Musk's X has offered to change its blue checkmark after the company received a 120-million-euro (138 million U.S. dollars) fine, without providing details about what X had submitted.
"We will now carefully assess the substance of what we have just received," he said, adding that the European Union's (EU's) objective is to ensure citizens benefit from "additional protection safeguards" provided by its legislation, rather than imposing fines.
The Commission announced the 120-million-euro penalty in December last year, saying X had failed to comply with DSA transparency requirements. It cited concerns, including the design of the platform's paid verification blue checkmark, the transparency of its advertising repository, and researchers' access to public data.
According to Regnier, as for the other two violations, X must submit further rectification plans by April 28 at the latest. He added that the European Commission still requires X to pay the fine before March 16.
In response, X said on Feb. 20 that it had filed an appeal at the EU General Court against the fine, describing the Commission's decision as the result of an "incomplete and superficial investigation." ■
