ZAGREB, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said Friday that the government is prepared to intervene in fuel and electricity prices amid rising global energy uncertainties.

Plenkovic told the media that the government will monitor potential price hikes for gasoline and diesel fueled by tensions in the Middle East. "If we assess that the increase is significant enough to require intervention, we will act, not today or tomorrow, probably Monday," he said, citing existing regulatory mechanisms.

Regarding energy subsidies set to expire on April 1, Plenkovic indicated that the government may extend these measures or introduce new ones.

Plenkovic said that sustained government subsidies for electricity and gas have shielded households, small businesses, and public institutions from the brunt of the energy price hike. He added that a final decision on extending these measures will be made after reviewing current price projections.
