BUCHAREST, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Romania's President Nicusor Dan on Tuesday signed a decree appointing Mihai Dimian as the new minister of education and research, the Presidential Administration announced.

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan earlier on Tuesday submitted Dimian's nomination to the president for approval.

Dimian has served as rector of Stefan cel Mare University of Suceava since 2024, after holding the position of pro-rector at the same institution from 2012 to 2024. He previously spent a decade as an assistant and associate professor at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

The post of education minister had been vacant since Daniel David resigned on Dec. 22, 2025. Prime Minister Bolojan had been serving as interim minister since then.
