ISTANBUL, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish government on Wednesday denied media reports claiming that it plans to invade Iranian territory on security grounds in the event of a U.S. attack on Iran.
Türkiye consistently upholds the "territorial integrity and sovereignty of neighboring countries, and takes all necessary measures to ensure the security of its borders," the country's Directorate of Communications said in a statement.
Authorities urged the public to avoid giving credence to unverified reports and to rely instead on official statements.
Türkiye has reiterated that it opposes any military solution and is committed to pursuing all possible diplomatic avenues to ease tensions between the United States and Iran.
The United States continues to deploy more warplanes and the world's largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to the Mediterranean Sea, joining other naval forces already positioned near Iran amid ongoing nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran. ■
