ATHENS, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Greece's tourism industry reached a new historic high in revenue in 2025, according to a report released Tuesday by the Bank of Greece.

The country generated approximately 23.6 billion euros (about 27.8 billion U.S. dollars) in travel receipts last year, marking a 9.4 percent increase compared to the previous record set in 2024.

Revenue growth was driven by a 5.6 percent rise in inbound arrivals, which reached around 36 million visitors, and a 3.8 percent increase in average spending per trip.

Despite global challenges in recent years, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the energy crisis, the country's tourism sector has shown resilience, Greek officials and experts noted.

Tourism, a longstanding pillar of the national economy, accounts for about 13 percent of Greece's gross domestic product.
