LONDON, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Britain's gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 1.3 percent in 2025, data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed on Thursday.

Official data also showed that for the last three months of 2025, the country's GDP grew by 0.1 percent, indicating continued weak economic momentum.

In output terms, the latest quarterly growth was driven by a 1.2 percent increase in production, while construction output fell by 2.1 percent and the services sector showed no growth.

Liz McKeown, director of economic statistics at the ONS, said the economy "continued to grow slowly in the last three months of the year," noting that the services sector remained flat while construction recorded its weakest performance in more than four years.

British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said the government remains committed to strengthening economic growth.

"The government has the right economic plan to build a stronger and more secure economy, cutting the cost of living, cutting the national debt and creating the conditions for growth and investment in every part of the country," she said.

Recent forecasts from the Bank of England suggest economic growth is likely to remain subdued in the near term, reflecting persistent structural constraints including weak productivity growth and cautious business investment.
