TIRANA, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Clashes broke out late Tuesday during an opposition demonstration in front of the Albanian parliament in Tirana, according to local media reports.
Thousands gathered in the capital's center to protest alleged government corruption and to call for the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
Some protesters threw Molotov cocktails, fireworks, and other incendiary items, resulting in bursts of flame and smoke, Albanian Daily News reported.
Security forces responded by deploying riot police. Local officials said that at least eight officers were injured during the clashes. ■
