MOSCOW, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Life expectancy in Moscow has exceeded 80 years in 2025, ranking first in Russia and reaching a long-standing target, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Monday.
Sobyanin noted that Moscow has made consistent efforts to achieve the goal set by Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling for increasing public participation in sports activities to 70 percent.
According to the mayor, the city's healthcare system has undergone a comprehensive digital transformation, while the number of high-tech enterprises has grown significantly.
The average length of hospital stays has been reduced by five times due to minimally invasive procedures and faster recovery, pushing medical services to a whole new level, he said.
Artificial intelligence-based diagnostic services have been extended to 74 regions across the country, Sobyanin said, noting that the services are provided for free and that people receive diagnostic results promptly across 60 different services.
Putin praised Moscow's achievements, saying that the progress in life expectancy was largely attributable to the city's work in the healthcare sector.
In December 2025, Sobyanin said that rising life expectancy also meant growing demand for healthcare services, with such work placed as one of the top priorities in Moscow. ■
