BUDAPEST, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 0.3 percent in 2025 over the previous year on a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Friday.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, Hungary's GDP rose 0.5 percent year-on-year on a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis, while quarter-on-quarter growth stood at 0.2 percent.
Nyeste Orsolya, a senior macroeconomic analyst at Erste Bank, said the quarterly expansion in the fourth quarter slightly exceeded the bank's expectation of stagnation but fell short of the more optimistic market consensus.
She noted that household consumption likely remained the main driver of growth, while weak industrial output continued to restrain export performance.
Compared with 2024, Hungary's economic performance in 2025 was close to stagnation, Orsolya said. She added that the economy is expected to gradually move out of stagnation in 2026, with annual GDP growth projected at around 2 percent, although downside risks remain amid weak momentum at the end of last year. ■
