SOFIA, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian authorities have seized around 700 kg of marijuana worth 6.39 million U.S. dollars at the Lesovo checkpoint on the border with Türkiye, the Prosecutor's Office said on Monday.
The illicit drug was discovered on Jan. 16 in a truck with an attached trailer, transporting 12 pallets of natural plywood from Bulgaria to Türkiye, the office said.
A thorough inspection involving X-ray examination revealed that the marijuana, split into 1,186 packets, was hidden inside the plywood.
An investigation is underway.
Bulgaria's National Customs Agency said recently that the marijuana price in Türkiye was around three times higher than in Bulgaria. ■
