ST. PETERSBURG, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Negligent actions by an instructor injured 20 people at a police training center in West Russia's Komi Republic, local authorities said Friday.
Preliminary findings by the regional branch of the Ministry of Internal Affairs show the incident was caused by an exploded stun grenade, which sparked a fire in one of the facilities at the city center of Syktyvkar on Thursday.
The affected trainees were hospitalized with skin burns, burns to the upper respiratory tract and carbon monoxide poisoning. All are receiving necessary medical treatment.
A criminal case has been opened on negligence charges, the ministry said. ■
