RIGA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Europeans are fully capable of defending their territory against any threat, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said here on Thursday, stressing that Greenland is a European territory whose security is inseparable from that of Europe.

Barrot arrived in Riga on Thursday for talks with his Latvian counterpart Baiba Braze, focusing on European security amid Washington's plans on Greenland.

At a news conference following the meeting, Barrot underlined that Greenland is a European territory, and security in the Arctic cannot be separated from European security.

He noted that French forces are joining military drills organized by Denmark in Greenland.

Braze emphasized that the issue of Greenland is essential in the context of transatlantic security and that direct dialogue between Denmark and the United States is the best way to solve security issues.

According to Latvia's Foreign Ministry, the two ministers discussed Euro-Atlantic security and defense, cooperation within the European Union and NATO, support for Ukraine, strengthening the EU-NATO external border, EU budget priorities and EU enlargement.
