ST. PETERSBURG, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Nine people were injured on Thursday after a stun grenade exploded at a police training center in Russia's northwestern city of Syktyvkar, capital of the Komi Republic, local health authorities said.

According to Komi's regional health ministry, the explosion occurred during activities being held at the training facility under Russia's Interior Ministry. Four of the injured were in critical condition.

About 200 people were evacuated due to the heavy smoke produced by the blast at the scene, Komi's health ministry said. Ten ambulance teams, including two intensive care units, were deployed to provide emergency assistance.
