MOSCOW, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- No third party can change the fundamental nature of Russia-Iran relations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump's statements about imposing 25 percent tariffs on countries cooperating with Iran, Lavrov said the ties between Moscow and Tehran are based on agreements reached by the presidents of Russia and Iran.
"They (Presidents) respond to the interests of the two states and peoples," he said.
The nature of the bilateral relationship is reflected in many practical projects, such as the construction of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant and the implementation of transport infrastructure projects like the International North-South Transport Corridor, Lavrov said.
"Undoubtedly, the United States has acted in a way that ignores all the norms it itself promoted. It championed a model it called globalization, but then it abandoned all its principles. Of course, this leads one to conclude that our American counterparts who act in such a way appear rather unreliable," he said.
"I think we should simply proceed with our work and implement all these agreements that were reached between Iran and Russia, and between Russia and all our other trade and economic partners," he added. ■
