BUCHAREST, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Romania will continue to experience unusually cold winter weather into early February, with temperatures remaining below seasonal averages across most of the country, the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) said on Tuesday.

In its four-week forecast covering Jan. 12 to Feb. 9, ANM said the cold spell will be most severe in the northeast, east and southeast of Romania, while occasional snowfall is possible in some areas. Average temperatures are expected to remain below normal across the country through late January, with the strongest negative anomalies in northeastern regions.

However, precipitation levels will be below average in western, northern and central parts of the country during much of the period, ANM said.

The agency said the cold had intensified earlier this week, with overnight temperatures dropping to between minus 19 and minus 7 degrees Celsius across nearly all of Romania. The lowest readings were seen in Transylvania and mountainous areas.
