MOSCOW, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Four deputies of the Russian State Duma have been invited to Washington for consultations on Ukraine, RIA Novosti reported on Friday.
"Have extended a formal invitation to Duma members to meet with us here in Washington, D.C., later this month," U.S. Representative Anna Paulina Luna said in a post on her X account.
Luna added that she had received permission from the U.S. State Department for the consultations.
The agenda for the meeting will cover the peaceful settlement of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, prospects for trade, and strengthening ties between Russia and the United States.
Alexey Chepa, deputy head of the State Duma's international affairs committee, confirmed that preparations for the meeting are underway, but the exact date has yet to be determined.
The idea of a Russia-U.S. parliamentary meeting was first floated by Russia's special presidential representative Kirill Dmitriev in late October after talks with Luna. ■
