ISTANBUL, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye's oil production rose 26 percent and natural gas output increased 39 percent in 2025, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Wednesday.
In a written statement, Bayraktar reported that oil production reached 47.9 million barrels, while natural gas output climbed to 3.2 billion cubic meters. Daily natural gas production peaked at 10.2 million cubic meters on April 21, 2025.
He emphasized that the government aims to reduce external dependence and strengthen energy security. Türkiye currently meets roughly two-thirds of its energy demand through imports, costing an estimated 60-70 billion U.S. dollars annually.
The minister highlighted the significance of the Gabar oil field and the Sakarya Gas Field in easing Türkiye's energy cost burden. The Gabar oil field, in southeastern Sirnak province near the Iraqi border, began production in late 2022, while the offshore Sakarya Gas Field started delivering gas in 2023. ■
