KIEV, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday that he has offered Kyrylo Budanov, chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the position of head of his office.

"Ukraine needs greater focus on security issues, the development of the Defense and Security Forces of Ukraine, as well as on the diplomatic track of negotiations, and the presidential office will primarily serve the fulfillment of these tasks," Zelensky said on Telegram.

He instructed Budanov, in cooperation with the National Security and Defense Council, to update Ukraine's strategic defense and development framework and submit it for approval.

The former head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, resigned in November 2025 over a corruption scandal.
