MOSCOW, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Russia discovered 36 new hydrocarbon fields in 2025, keeping reserve growth broadly in line with last year's level, local media reported Saturday.
In an interview with TASS news agency, Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Alexander Kozlov said that geological exploration in 2025 resulted in an increase of 666 million tons of oil reserves and 686 billion cubic meters of gas reserves, figures comparable to those of previous years.
"These indicators are approximately in line with last year's results. In total, 36 new hydrocarbon fields have been discovered," Kozlov said, adding that the final figures will be confirmed in early 2026.
Earlier, Russia's Federal Agency for Subsoil Use (Rosnedra) reported that in the first nine months of 2025, the country's oil and condensate reserves rose by 80.5 million tons, while gas reserves increased by 450 billion cubic meters.
In 2024, Russia recorded a rise of 516 million tons in recoverable liquid hydrocarbon reserves, including oil and condensate, roughly matching production levels. Gas reserves increased by 723 billion cubic meters, compared with the production of 685 billion cubic meters that year, official data showed. ■
