MOSCOW, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Friday it had prevented a planned attack targeting a serviceman of the Russian Defense Ministry in the city of Stavropol.

The FSB said the suspect, living in the Krasnodar region, intended to attach an improvised explosive device with a reported yield of about 400 grams of TNT equivalent to a vehicle parked near a military unit.

According to the statement, the suspect acted on orders from the Ukrainian special services and was detained red-handed while attempting to execute the plot. The FSB did not disclose details on the targeted serviceman.

A criminal case has been opened on charges including an attempted terrorist act, as well as the manufacture and illegal handling of explosive materials, the FSB said, adding that an investigation is ongoing.
