MOSCOW, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on Thursday, according to the local geophysical service.
The quake occurred at 1237 GMT, with its epicenter located about 99 km away from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the regional capital, at a depth of 41 km, said the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences reported earlier that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.1. ■
