ISTANBUL, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye seized more than 1.6 tons of narcotics and detained hundreds of suspects in nationwide anti-drug operations in the past two weeks, authorities said on Friday.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on social media X that simultaneous operations were conducted across 29 provinces under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices and the Gendarmerie Anti-Narcotics Department.
The operations, involving 2,430 narcotics and public security teams and more than 6,000 personnel, resulted in the confiscation of 1,628 kg of illegal drugs along with 750,238 narcotic pills, Yerlikaya said in a statement.
A total of 345 suspects were taken into custody, of whom 110 were formally arrested, while judicial control orders were issued for 59 others. Procedures for the remaining suspects are ongoing. ■
