WARSAW, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Poland's first nuclear power plant is expected to begin construction as early as December, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced Tuesday.

"We will soon have official confirmation that the European Commission agrees to state aid for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland," Tusk said.

"We have secured the full amount of funding, amounting to 60 billion Polish zlotys (about 16.51 billion U.S. dollars). The first 4.6 billion zlotys in treasury securities will reach the interested entity in December." He added.

Poland's first nuclear power plant will be built in the Lubiatowo-Kopalino area on the Baltic Sea coast. The plant will include three units, with Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe, the state-owned company serving as investor and operator.

The project's contractor is the American consortium Westinghouse-Bechtel. The first unit is expected to enter commercial operation in 2036.
