OSLO, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Norwegian government on Monday unveiled a new drone strategy for its defense sector.
While launching the strategy, Norwegian Minister of Defense Tore O. Sandvik said that success in enhancing the nation's drone capabilities depends heavily on a coordinated effort between the military, the private sector, research institutions, and allied nations.
The strategy emphasizes that competence in new technologies often lies outside the traditional defense industry. Consequently, the government aims to leverage Norway's existing technological strengths to build a robust drone ecosystem.
While the strategy sets a long-term direction, the Norwegian Armed Forces have already taken steps by reallocating 1.5 billion Norwegian kroner (148 million U.S. dollars) to a drone program recently. (1 Norwegian krone = 0.099 U.S. dollar) ■
