BERLIN, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Germany and Poland on Monday agreed on a plan to establish a memorial for Polish victims of World War II and the restitution of historical cultural artifacts, according to a statement from the German government.
The two sides agreed to set up a memorial in Berlin dedicated to Polish citizens and victims of World War II and Nazi tyranny between 1939 and 1945.
The monument is intended to serve as a site of remembrance, a warning against tyranny, and a symbol of German-Polish reconciliation.
The German government also handed over historical cultural artifacts, including 73 parchment documents dating from 1215 to 1466, back to Poland.
The documents were removed from Warsaw during World War II and taken to Germany. ■
