SARAJEVO, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Adriatic Sea Watershed Agency in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) issued a flood alert on Monday for the Adriatic watershed, particularly the Herzegovina region, in light of heavy rainfall forecast for Nov. 18-19.
According to the agency, 40-60 liters of precipitation per square meter are expected within a 24-hour period, posing risks of rising water levels, flash floods and urban inundation.
The agency urged all relevant authorities to closely monitor conditions and implement protective measures in line with the Federation's Operational Flood Defence Plan.
Rescue and civil-protection services responsible for safeguarding people and property were also advised to remain on high alert. Real-time water-level data from hydrological stations across the Adriatic basin is available to the public through the agency's website.
In October last year, devastating floods struck central Bosnia, claiming 26 lives and causing extensive damage. ■
