BERLIN, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The expansion of data centers driven by artificial intelligence (AI) in Germany has been progressing slowly, leaving the country behind in global competition, said a study released on Monday by Germany's digital association Bitkom.

"There are still no mega data centers in Germany operated exclusively for AI applications. The high-performance IT systems in German data centers are also significantly smaller compared to those abroad," the study said.

Bitkom's report projects that Germany's total data center capacity will grow by around 70 percent by 2030.

"Germany must ensure that we have sufficiently powerful data centers. Without data centers, there is no AI," said Bitkom CEO Bernhard Rohleder.
