BERLIN, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The number of people emigrating from Germany to the United States fell by 17.8 percent in the first nine months of 2025, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said on Monday.

It was the lowest figure recorded since the pandemic year of 2021, when travel restrictions were in place, the office said in a press release.

From January to September, around 17,100 people moved from Germany to the United States, compared with 20,800 in the same period last year, Destatis said. Meanwhile, the number of people moving from the U.S. to Germany rose by 3.4 percent to more than 19,300.

"This means that for the first time since 2021, more people moved from the United States to Germany in the first nine months of the year than vice versa," the office said.

The number of passengers flying from Germany to the United States also declined by 1.3 percent between January and September, while passenger numbers to other non-European destinations rose by 4.3 percent over the same period, it added.
