VIENNA, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear power plant experienced power fluctuations early Wednesday due to a technical problem, according to the UN nuclear watchdog.

The plant lost connection to the 330 kV line of its Slavutych substation. By swiftly switching to alternate lines, power was restored, except for the New Safe Confinement (NSC), the International Atomic Energy Agency said on the social platform X on Wednesday night.

Two emergency diesel generators are currently supplying electricity to the NSC, which covers the old sarcophagus built after the Chernobyl accident in 1986, the UN agency said.

The Chernobyl plant saw one of the worst nuclear accidents in history on April 26, 1986, when a series of explosions ripped through the No. 4 reactor, causing radiation to spread across Ukraine and other European countries.
