OSLO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed Monday evening when a passenger train collided with a tractor on the Gjovik Line in eastern Norway, local police reported.

The collision occurred at an unsecured level crossing near a small locality in Vestre Toten municipality in Innlandet County, about 100 km north of the capital Oslo. Police confirmed that the tractor driver died at the scene.

According to police, the train was traveling northbound and was not carrying passengers at the time. None of the crew members on board were injured.

Emergency services responded quickly to the site. "We are now waiting for further investigation measures ... to determine what happened here," Steinar Andersen, incident commander at the Innlandet Police District, told the Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

Bane NOR, Norway's rail infrastructure operator, said the Gjovik Line was temporarily closed to other traffic following the collision.

The Gjovik Line connects Oslo and Gjovik and is an important regional railway serving commuters and freight traffic.
