SARAJEVO, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Postal operators in Bosnia and Herzegovina(BiH) said Friday they have suspended acceptance of postal shipments to the United States, citing changes to U.S. customs rules that will take effect next week.
State-owned BH Posta and Poste Srpske announced they have stopped receiving all types of international mail addressed to U.S. recipients. The decision follows the U.S. move to abolish the "de minimis" duty-free exemption for most imports starting Aug. 29, 2025.
Under the new regulations, low-value shipments under 800 U.S. dollars will no longer be exempt from duties and will be subject to customs clearance procedures.
Postal operators in BiH said they currently lack the technical solutions required to implement the new rules, while partner airlines have also suspended transport of such mail. Similar measures are being taken by postal operators across Europe.
BH Posta said efforts are underway to restore normal postal traffic to the United States. ■
