SARAJEVO, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- A wildfire that broke out Wednesday evening in Neum, southern Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), continued to spread on Thursday, threatening residential houses and olive groves, local authorities said.
Fanned by strong winds, the blaze advanced toward nearby villages, with the situation particularly severe in Hutovo, where flames were approaching family homes, according to the Neum Municipal Civil Protection Service.
More than 50 firefighters from Neum and other areas, along with local residents, have been mobilized. More reinforcements are arriving, Neum Mayor Dragan Jurkovic said. The country's armed forces also deployed a helicopter to assist.
Several road sections connecting Neum with neighboring municipalities have been temporarily closed. No casualties have been reported so far. ■
