VIENNA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Austria's economic momentum remained weak in the second quarter of this year, with economic output grew by 0.1 percent on a quarterly basis, according to a flash estimate on Wednesday.

"According to first calculations, real gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2025 was slightly above the level of the previous quarter. Economic momentum thus remained weak," Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) said, adding that such performance also represented a 0.1-percent increase compared with the second quarter of 2024.

The service sectors saw positive development in the second quarter of 2025. According to WIFO, value added in the category of "information and communication, financial and insurance activities, real estate activities" rose by 0.2 percent, while that in "other services" like arts and entertainment went up by 0.8 percent.

In the industrial sectors, the momentum is currently weak, WIFO said. The added value in several industries stagnated in the second quarter of this year, while that in construction continued to fall by 0.5 percent, after a 0.3-percent drop in the first quarter.

On the demand side, private household consumption supported the total economy with a 0.3-percent growth compared to the previous quarter, while public consumption fell, WIFO said.
