BERLIN, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Germany's cabinet on Wednesday approved a draft law designed to accelerate and simplify the procurement of military equipment and supplies for the Bundeswehr, the country's armed forces.
The move is to make the Bundeswehr the strongest conventional army in Europe, as Germany's new government vows to boost military spending.
By cutting through bureaucratic red tape and streamlining procurement processes, the government aims to modernize the military more efficiently.
The draft law highlights an expansion of the scope of the procurement acceleration measures that were first introduced in 2022.
Once passed, it will allow such acceleration to apply to all public contracts for the Bundeswehr's needs, including not only military hardware but also civilian supplies like medical materials.
The draft law also introduces changes including the possibility of making advance payments.
It will go to the Bundestag for parliamentary approval. ■
