THE HAGUE, June 16 (Xinhua) -- A new strike will halt all train services in the eastern and northwestern regions of the Netherlands on Tuesday, the national railway operator Dutch Railways (NS) announced on Monday.
Starting at 4 a.m. local time, train operations will be suspended across the provinces of North Holland, Flevoland, Gelderland, and large parts of Overijssel. This disruption will significantly impact travel in and around major cities such as Amsterdam, Haarlem, Alkmaar, Nijmegen, Arnhem, and Enschede.
"To continue running as many trains as possible in the rest of the Netherlands, we have adjusted the timetable," NS stated. Limited services will continue to operate between Amsterdam Central Station and Schiphol Airport.
The ongoing strikes stem from a dispute between NS and trade unions over a new collective labor agreement. This latest strike is the fourth in less than two weeks.
Last Friday, NS proposed a revised wage offer, including a 3.25 percent salary increase for this year and 2.75 percent for next year. However, unions VVMC and FNV rejected the offer, insisting on a raise of more than 6 percent. ■
