VILNIUS, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The Kelme Wind Farm, the largest wind energy project in Lithuania and the Baltic states, has officially commenced full commercial operations on Thursday.

The farm, with a capacity of 314 megawatts, is expected to generate 1 terawatt-hour of electricity annually -- about one-twelfth of Lithuania's yearly consumption -- enough to power 250,000 households.

Ignitis Group, the largest energy group in the Baltic states, said the project, completed by the group, will boost local power supply, reduce energy imports, and strengthen grid stability.

Located in central Lithuania, the wind farm represents a total investment of 550 million euros (627 million U.S. dollars).
