RIGA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The Latvian government on Tuesday approved the 2025 Implementation Plan for its Defense Industry and Innovation Support Strategy, prioritizing export-ready projects and military production.
According to LETA news agency, the plan outlines four key goals: boosting national defense capabilities, encouraging high-value innovation, strengthening ties between government, industry, and research, and improving supply chain resilience for both industry and the National Armed Forces.
Also on Tuesday, Latvia's Defense Ministry signed an 81 million euro (92 million U.S. dollars) deal with Germany's EuroSpike to acquire additional Spike anti-tank missile systems, ammunition, and related equipment. Deliveries are set to begin in 2028.
The contract includes a provision for 30 percent local industry involvement, in line with Latvia's strategy to support domestic defense sector growth. ■
