THE HAGUE, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Dutch King Willem-Alexander on Tuesday accepted the resignation of ministers from the far-right Party for Freedom (PVV) following the collapse of the coalition government led by Prime Minister Dick Schoof.
The King has requested that the remaining cabinet members continue to serve in a caretaker capacity.
According to a statement from the Royal House, the King met with Prime Minister Schoof at the Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after Schoof announced the resignation of his government following the PVV's withdrawal from the ruling coalition.
"The responsibilities of the departing (PVV) ministers will be temporarily assumed by other members of the cabinet," the statement said.
"As for Prime Minister Schoof and the remaining ministers and state secretaries, the King has taken their offer of resignation under consideration but has asked them to remain in office in a caretaker capacity," it said.
"They will continue to perform all duties they deem necessary in the interest of the Kingdom until a new government is formed," the statement added. ■
